The third edition of the “EcoMission – Say No to Waste” project has concluded
For the third time, the Federation of Polish Food Banks, in cooperation with Lidl Poland, has created an ecological educational program aimed at teachers and primary school students. Over 58,000 children from 753 institutions across Poland participated in the program. Since its inception, over 140,000 students from 1,378 schools have participated in the EcoMission project.
For this year’s edition, 8 lesson plans, an illustrated story, two audiobooks, and a special art competition were prepared. The materials were created in Polish and Ukrainian languages and adapted to the age range of the participants. For classes attended by children of Ukrainian origin, two outdoor game scenarios utilizing experiential learning were also developed. The aim of the activities is to build relationships between students of Polish and Ukrainian descent. Approximately 3,500 Ukrainian students participated in the activities.
Fostering environmental awareness among students
The project “EcoMission – Say No to Waste” was launched in 2018 with the aim of educating the youngest about the environment, promoting healthy lifestyles, and preventing food waste. Experts from Food Banks, together with experienced educators, create lesson plans for participants from primary schools each year. Over the course of six months, students deepen their knowledge through workshops and activities. This year, the project also included a drawing competition titled “Diet Change for the Planet.”
The idea behind this initiative stemmed from the need to reach the youngest audience. We aim to promote good habits and understand the importance of fostering environmentally conscious attitudes among young people, who have a tangible impact on the future of our planet. By employing various teaching methods, we can tailor content to individual classes, making the sessions a source of knowledge, integration, and enjoyable learning for students. – stated Beata Ciepła, President of the Federation of Food Banks.
Fighting food waste
The idea behind EcoMission is to instill conscious attitudes among students, particularly regarding responsible meal planning. Sharing fundamental knowledge in this area encourages habit changes and emphasizes the benefits of reducing food waste. The diverse and engaging lesson topics capture the genuine interest of students.
As the climate changes before our eyes, it becomes increasingly important to educate the youngest generation on environmental matters. The project, conducted in collaboration with the Federation of Food Banks, addresses contemporary challenges and raises students’ awareness of the current state of our planet in an accessible manner, encouraging them to adopt new habits. Specially prepared educational materials enable teachers and educators to address important issues in an easy and engaging way.
