150 Tons of Food Collected in Easter Food Drive
The Food Banks have concluded the first stage of the Easter Food Drive in 2023, which involved retail chains across Poland. The online collection is still ongoing on the website https://zbiorkazywnosci.pl/, which will additionally help purchase Easter packages for those in need.
A total of 1,369 stores and over 15,000 volunteers participated in the in-store collection, coordinated by a total of 21 Food Banks. During the collection, store customers mainly donated items with a long shelf life and those that could be used for Easter dishes. As a result of the two-day collection, a total of 150 tons of donations were gathered for people in need.
This year’s result is over 40 tons more food collected than in 2022. However, considering the growing need for food assistance in Poland, this support will not meet all the needs. In 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic, Food Banks collected 358 tons of food during the Easter Food Drive. The prolonged pandemic, followed by rising inflation and the war in Ukraine, have led to an increase in the number of those in need, but not an increase in aid.
The in-store collection has ended, but participation is still possible by making a financial donation on the official website https://zbiorkazywnosci.pl/. The collected funds will then be used to purchase the most needed products for people in difficult situations.
